Assistant Kitchen Manager - Mill Run, PA
Fallingwater, Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural masterpiece, has an opening for An Assistant Kitchen Manager to assist the Chef/Café Manager with all aspects of running a food service operation. Job duties include production and catering cooking, light line cooking, café oversight and scheduling, and setting up/breaking down Café catered events. Prior culinary training with an accredited culinary school is required. Three year’s of culinary experience in a restaurant kitchen is preferred. This is a full time hourly position working full time for approximately 9 months of the year and an abbreviated schedule in the winter. Fallingwater Curator of Education - Mill Run, PA
Fallingwater, Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural masterwork, has an opening for Curator of Education. The Curator directs the interpretation and education department at Fallingwater, which includes the public tour program, interpretive staff training and a variety of public education programs. This position reports to the Vice President/Director of Fallingwater and is located in Mill Run, PA.
Required Qualifications include a minimum of an undergraduate degree in art education, museum education, architecture or art history, with a master’s degree preferred. At least 5 year’s of teaching or equivalent museum education experience is required. Five year’s supervisory experience is required; must have the ability to positively lead a large staff. Must be creative and have the ability to design innovative educational programs for diverse audiences; experience working with electronic media and writing curriculum. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and reflect a polished, professional demeanor in a variety of situations. Prior management experience, including formulating and managing budgets is strongly preferred. Grant writing experience would be a plus.

Invertebrate Zoologist/Non-Game Biologist - Pleasant Gap in Centre County, PA
This is a full time, contract-funded position, with funding available for five years, with potential for further funding.
The Invertebrate Zoologist/Nongame Biologist is responsible for assisting in the protection, conservation, management, and research efforts concerning native Pennsylvania reptiles, amphibians, nongame fishes and aquatic organisms. The position will be based in central Pennsylvania at the offices of the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission (PFBC), which regulates and protects reptiles, amphibians, and aquatic animal species in Pennsylvania. This position will support, assist, and be co-supervised by the PFBC nongame and endangered species biologist (Natural Diversity Section Chief).
Job responsibilities:
1. Assist in reviewing project permits by conducting database searches for the occurrence of endangered, threatened, and candidate species under the jurisdiction of the PFBC. Includes identifying site locations on maps, preparing written responses, and consulting environmental consultants and project managers.
2. Assist with special projects or assignments as needed. Special projects may include field inventories and surveys for endangered and threatened species.
3. Receive and respond to written and telephone inquiries from the public regarding reptiles, amphibians, and aquatic nongame species.
4. Serve as a liaison between the PFBC and the Pennsylvania Natural Diversity Inventory, and help to implement joint initiatives.
5. Process records for special concern species and convey to PA Natural Heritage Program data management staff.
Qualifications:
• Masters degree in biology, ecology, or zoology, with a concentration in invertebrate zoology or a related natural science area or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Knowledge of and experience with regional flora and fauna and ecosystems.
• Ability to evaluate habitat conditions and collect and process specimens.
• Experience with statistical analysis of natural communities and a variety of environmental data on ecological communities.
• Familiarity with remote geographic information systems and remote sensing applications.
• Familiarity with methodology of the network of Natural Heritage Programs and Conservation Data Centers is preferred.
• At least 3 years of professional experience in the field of invertebrate zoology or wildlife management is preferred.
• Familiarity with Pennsylvania's native and reptiles, amphibians, fish, and aquatic invertebrates.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to compile and organize scientific data with attention to detail.
• Proven ability in written and oral communications.
• Ability to work in variable weather conditions, remote locations, and at times under physically demanding circumstances.
• Valid driver’s license.

Conservation Information Assistant - Pittsburgh, PA
Western Pennsylvania Conservancy has an opening for a Conservation Information Assistant to assist with data management for the Pennsylvania Natural Heritage Program (PNHP). The objective of the PNHP is to collect, analyze, manage, interpret, and provide information about Pennsylvania’s species and habitats, in order to assist in the protection and maintenance of the natural diversity of species and ecological systems. Position duties include entering data into database, map and manual files; researching records; performing quality checks of the database; interacting with data providers and providing information to users, as needed. This position is located in Pittsburgh and reports to the Associate Information Manager. This is a full time, contract funded position providing a competitive salary and fringe benefits.
Qualifications
- Education or experience in biology, conservation or related scientific field is required. Need to be able to generally comprehend and summarize basic scientific or biological information.
- Must have excellent organizational and critical thinking skills.
- Database skills and experience and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) experience strongly preferred. Must have good computer skills and be able use Windows operating systems and basic personal computer hardware and software programs.
- Clerical experience, including typing, data entry and document filing is required.
- Good written communication skills are required. Must be able to produce clear written summaries of documents or reports.

Community Gardens and Greenspace Field Staff - Pittsburgh, PA
Western Pennsylvania Conservancy has a full time opening in its Community Gardens/Greenspace department for a Community Gardens and Greenspace Field Staff position, based in Pittsburgh. Will assist in spring installation, summer maintenance and fall clean-up of community garden and greening projects. Candidates should have a basic understanding of horticulture and landscape techniques; background/understanding of urban beautification and/or greening projects helpful. Good computer skills with ability to use word, outlook and excel software is required. Must be flexible with schedule and able to work long hours out of doors, have a valid drivers license, be able to travel to different garden sites throughout western Pennsylvania, and be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Director, Land Protection – Pittsburgh, PA
The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, a regional conservation organization that has protected over 228,000 acres in its 77 years, seeks an experienced professional to manage its land protection program. The Director is responsible for managing all aspects of the department including: staff, budget, project tracking and reporting, and fundraising. This position takes a lead role in achieving the Conservancy’s goal of increasing the scope and scale of land conservation in western Pennsylvania, including leading the implementation of a new revolving loan fund for local land trusts. The director works closely with the Associate Vice President of Land Conservation and Stewardship to set the strategic direction of the organization’s land protection efforts. The director will be responsible for ensuring that all land protection projects are completed in adherence with organizational quality standards and meet Land Trust Alliance Standards and Practices. The director, along with stewardship staff, senior management and the board of directors, will lead the Conservancy in seeking land trust accreditation. Minimum 4-6 years experience in land trust or real estate related field. A bachelors degree or higher in natural resource management, law, business administration or other related field. Experience managing multiple land conservation staff, along with management in tracking multiple projects toward execution, is preferred.
